Larry Geraty receives the Harris Award from Honors & Awards Chair, Laura Mazow.
At the 2019 ÂÌñÒùÆÞ Annual Meeting in San Diego, Larry Geraty received the Charles U. Harris Service Award. This award is given in recognition of long term and/or special service as an ÂÌñÒùÆÞ officer or Trustee.
Lawrence (Larry) T. Geraty, President Emeritus, Director of the Foundation Board and Associate Director of the Center for Near Eastern Studies at La Sierra University, has been engaged with Near Eastern archaeology and with ÂÌñÒùÆÞ and its affiliate schools for more than five decades. In this time, he has taken on leadership roles as ÂÌñÒùÆÞ President from 2002 to 2006 and by serving on the ÂÌñÒùÆÞ Board through 2016 and acting as an Honorary Trustee since then. Larry has also served as ACOR trustee (1976-2002), Secretary-Treasurer (1983) and vice-president (1993). The creation of the newly endowed ÂÌñÒùÆÞ Lawrence T. Geraty Community Archaeology Endowment will heighten awareness of cultural heritage by engaging and facilitating partnerships with local communities in heritage protection and community archaeology. This new initiative will serve as a model for ways that archaeologists working in the Near East and Mediterranean region can partner with local communities to their mutual benefit. For Larry’s long-term affiliation, service and support for ACOR, ÂÌñÒùÆÞ and AIAR, and his life-long accomplishments in archaeology, he is awarded the Charles U. Harris Service Award.
“It was a privilege for me to serve ÂÌñÒùÆÞ during a difficult bridge-time between its glorious past and very successful present.  Any contributions I have made were in the context of a team effort with talented colleagues whose friendship and support I’ll always cherish.”  Appreciatively, Larry
Geraty chats with colleagues after receiving the Harris Award.
